SIUC has made the news again: SIUC Moves to Subject Tenured Professors to Layoff [Chronicle of Higher Education]
This just proves the point that, beyond even the unfair terms and conditions that are being imposed on faculty and staff, we need to resume bargaining and gain a fair, mutually acceptable contract. The longer and more divisive the labor disputes on campus are the more bad press SIUC will received at the local and national levels. That press, combined with the political situation in the state with regards to higher education funding, pensions, and other conditions important to employees will make it increasingly harder for SIUC to draw in high quality, dedicated faculty and staff.
Let’s demand the administration sit down at the bargaining table and work with us to create a great contract that is acceptable to everyone!
